Ottawa -Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters at a news conference in Laval, Quebec, it is “absolutely right” more people are using the word genocide for Russian actions in Ukraine, but refrained from using it himself. He said: “There are official processes around determinations of genocide, but I think it’s absolutely right that more people be talking and using the word genocide in terms of what Russia is doing, what Vladimir Putin has done,” adding Russia is attacking “Ukrainian identity and culture. These are all things that are war crimes that Putin is responsible for, these are all things that are crimes against humanity. Trudeau said the Canadian government is petitioning the International Criminal Court (ICC) to probe alleged Russian war crimes and by deploying RCMP investigators to the ICC.
