CALGARY – Hockey Canada has announced that Canada’s National Women’s Team will welcome the United States to Quebec for the first time since 2017 to wrap up the Rivalry Series next month.

The long-time rivals will meet at Colisée Vidéotron in Trois-Rivières on Feb. 20, before facing off on Feb. 22 at Place Bell in Laval.

After sweeping two games in Henderson, Nev., and Los Angeles, Calif., in December, Canada – the defending world and Olympic champions – can clinch the 2022-23 Rivalry Series with two wins in Quebec.

“Our team is excited to bring the Rivalry Series to Quebec next month and play the United States in Trois-Rivières and Laval,” said Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville, Que.), captain of Canada’s National Women’s Team. “We hope that the games will inspire young girls and boys to chase their hockey dreams, and we cannot wait to play on home ice in front of the best fans in the world.”

Tickets for each game will go on sale to the public on Jan. 23 at HockeyCanada.ca/Tickets.

Last month, Hockey Canada announced a new athlete agreement with members of Canada’s National Women’s Team, which includes a revenue-sharing arrangement on Rivalry Series games played in Canada, allowing athletes to benefit from the revenue generated at these events.

The Rivalry Series games will be hosted in partnership with the Montreal Canadiens and the Lions de Trois-Rivières, the Canadiens’ ECHL affiliate.

“We are thrilled to host some of the best hockey players in the world at Place Bell for this Rivalry Series game between Team Canada and Team USA,” said France Margaret Bélanger, president of hockey and entertainment of Groupe CH. “The Montreal Canadiens have been longtime supporters of women’s hockey and this is a continuation of our ongoing commitment to helping grow the game.  We’re proud to partner with Hockey Canada on an event that will showcase elite talent, including many Quebec-born players such as our own Marie-Philip Poulin, who will have a chance to play in front of their fans on home ice.”

“From the beginning, it was clear to us that our facilities and our team had to be built with the perspective of offering world-class events to the population,” said Mark Weightman, president and chief executive officer of the Lions de Trois-Rivières. “We are therefore extremely proud to host a match of this magnitude at Colisée Vidéotron. This game between Canada and the United States is a first in the Mauricie and we hope it will pave the way for us to host more major international events in the future.”

The 2022-23 Rivalry Series began in November, with the United States holding a narrow 3-2 lead after five games.

“The two games against the United States will be very important for our team’s preparation for the 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship on home ice in April,” said Gina Kingsbury (Rouyn-Noranda, Que.), director of hockey operations for Hockey Canada. “There is no better feeling than competing at home, and we are thrilled that fans in Quebec will have the opportunity to watch the National Women’s Team compete to win the Rivalry Series.”

More information on grassroots events taking place in advance of each Rivalry Series game will be announced at a later date.
