U.S. President Donald Trump has asserted that no one is “getting off the hook,” despite his administration issuing exemptions for certain high-tech Chinese products from the recently imposed 145% tariffs. Trump emphasized that the trade pressure remains firm.
China, in response, called on the U.S. to “completely cancel” the tariffs, describing the exemptions as merely a “small step” in correcting what it called a “wrong practice.” Chinese President Xi Jinping, during a tour of Southeast Asia, warned that trade wars “yield no winners,” signaling frustration over the ongoing economic tensions.
Meanwhile, President Trump is also scheduled to meet El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele at the White House. The U.S. is reportedly planning to deport more immigrants to El Salvador, with many being sent to one of the region’s most notorious maximum-security prisons. The meeting is expected to focus on immigration enforcement and security cooperation.
