Hope for Gaza: Hamas Responds Positively to 60-Day Ceasefire Proposal

In a breakthrough after months of failed talks, Hamas has submitted a “positive response” to a US-backed 60-day ceasefire proposal with Israel. The move paves the way for final negotiations aimed at ending the war in Gaza, which has killed over 57,000 Palestinians.

Israel had earlier accepted the deal, and with Hamas on board—after making some minor amendments—the two sides are expected to begin proximity talks to finalize the terms. US President Donald Trump expressed optimism, saying he believes an agreement could be reached within a week.

The ceasefire plan involves the phased release of hostages and a gradual Israeli withdrawal from parts of northern Gaza. On the first day, Hamas would release 8 living hostages in exchange for an undisclosed number of Palestinian prisoners. The deal also includes increased humanitarian aid and US guarantees to push for a lasting peace.

Qatar and Egypt played key roles in the negotiations, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to discuss the deal in Washington with Trump. Despite opposition from far-right Israeli factions, there’s growing political support for the ceasefire.
