BRAMPTON – Joining municipal leaders from around the world, the City of Brampton participated in the 2023 Urban 20 (U20) conference to discuss the significant role cities play in tackling global and local challenges such as pandemics, climate change impacts, bio-diversity loss, socio-economic inequalities, and geo-political issues.
In its sixth cycle of U20, under the leadership of the 2023 U20 Chair city of Ahmedabad, discussion and efforts focused on drafting a roadmap for global change that will be driven by cities by closing the gaps between policy and practice at all levels of governance. Through daily city building activities delivering municipal services and initiatives such as transit, job creation and housing development, municipalities are at the frontlines and play a pivotal role in effective solutions to pressing global issues.
Brampton strives to be at the centre of sustainability efforts and the global movement toward reducing our impact on the planet. Locally, the City of Brampton has focused its sustainability efforts through its Grow Green Environmental Master Plan (EMP). The EMP is a comprehensive framework to improve Brampton’s environmental performance, including principles, goals, actions, metrics, and targets. The City’s EMP vision is of a community that will conserve, enhance and balance our natural and built environments to create a healthy, sustainable, and resilient city.
