Quebec City – The National Battlefields Commission is proud to announce that the Plains of Abraham Museum has received an Award for Excellence from the Société des musées du Québec (SMQ) for the exhibition Aeria. The award was presented on October 5, 2023 during the SMQ’s annual conference. It honours those museum projects that have proven to be outstanding over the past year.

Aeria blends art and history to highlight eight characters from the history of the Plains of Abraham. Works by the artist-sculptor Jérôme Trudelle, designed via photogrammetry, give life to these witnesses of the past: Marguerite Martin, Michel Sarrazin, Montcalm and Wolfe, Petit Étienne, La Corriveau, Marcoux, and Parent. As visitors make their way through the exhibition, their experience is enlivened by an interactive tablet app that provides explanatory videos, games, and archival photos. Each work also features background music by sound designer Josué Beaucage.

The exhibition was opened on June 15, 2022 and will end on January 7, 2024. Access is included in admission to the Plains of Abraham Museum, at 835 Avenue Wilfrid-Laurier, Quebec City.

“Clearly, the Museum and the Plains employees are very proud of this project. By daring to combine contemporary art and history in a history museum, they have risen to a wondrously inspiring challenge. Beyond the award, it is our visitors’ appreciation and great satisfaction that will push us to pursue this path where art and history serve each other.” –  Stéphane Roy, Director of Museum Affairs
