Brampton’s Leaf Vacuum Program returns

eAwazLifestyle

BRAMPTON, ON – The City of Brampton’s Leaf Vacuum program is returning for the 2023 fall season to help keep communities safe and clear of fallen leaves. The 2023 program will begin in eligible Brampton neighbourhoods starting Monday, October 23, in downtown Brampton and Monday, October 30, in the Churchville Area.  The program will run in both communities until mid-December, weather permitting. Each eligible street will be vacuumed a minimum of three times during the program.

The Leaf Vacuum Program is offered in areas with the most mature trees and the highest volume of leaves. All other areas are serviced by the Region of Peel’s Waste Collection Program.  Fallen leaves can become slippery when wet, creating hazardous conditions and increasing the likelihood of falls. They also can block the drainage of water into catch-basins and become an obstacle to accessing fire hydrants and electrical boxes. The Leaf Vacuum Program helps keep public streets and walkways clear and safe, through collaboration with residents who collect leaves from their properties.
Using leaf vacuum vehicles, work crews collect the leaves that residents rake to the curb. The Leaf Vacuum Program is offered in partnership with the Region of Peel’s Yard Waste Collection Program. All collected leaves are then brought to the Region of Peel’s Composting Facility.
How eligible residents can prepare for the leaf vacuum:
• Rake only leaves to the curb (not onto the street).  Do not include garbage, wood, rocks, brush or brick.
• Keep leaves away from trees, street signs, fire hydrants, electrical boxes, catchbasins and other obstacles.
• Keep leaves on the boulevard and off the roadway.
• Bag backyard leaves and place them at the curb in labelled, open, rigid, reusable containers; bushel baskets or paper yard waste bags on your scheduled waste collection day for pickup by the Region of Peel.
