BRAMPTON – The City of Brampton invites residents to ring in the New Year with a free concert in Garden Square. Experience an unforgettable night full of live performances, outdoor skating, food vendors and more! This year will be extra special as the City kicks off celebrations for its 50th birthday. On January 1, 2024, the City is marking 50 years since its incorporation in 1974. To commemorate 50 vibrant years of Brampton’s growth and diversity, the City will be hosting a series of events, initiatives, and activities throughout 2024.
Hosted by comedian Jay Martin, the fun starts with performances by local Brampton artists Young Cake, Ajhani Azure and DuoTang, Brampton Arts Walk of Fame inductee and JUNO award-winner Keshia Chanté, and a headlining performance by Canadian rock band and four-time JUNO award-winner Our Lady Peace. End the night with dazzling fireworks presented by Tim Hortons.

About the performers:
Our Lady Peace
Our Lady Peace is Raine Maida (lead vocals), Duncan Coutts (bass), Jason Pierce (percussion), and Steve Mazur (lead guitar). They have sold over five million albums, won four JUNO Awards and 10 Much Music Videos Awards (one of the MMVA’s most awarded artists), and have toured the world with The Rolling Stones, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Van Halen, Goo Goo Dolls, Alanis Morissette, and more, in addition to launching their music festival, Summersault, and playing at legendary festivals such as Woodstock ’99 and Live 8. Keshia Chante
Keshia Chanté, a multi-hyphenate star has been at the top of her game for more than 20 years racking up chart-topping hits, co-hosting #1 shows in the U.S and Canada., captivating audiences with dynamic stage and screen performances, lending her time and talent to charitable causes, repping world-class brands, running her own company – K.Chante Inc., and most recently, adding selfcare product designer to her litany of talents. After bursting onto the music scene at 13, Keshia Chanté earned the distinction of being the youngest Juno Award-Winner and a seven-time nominee thanks to a string of radio and club bangers including “Unpredictable,” “Bad Boy,” “Does He Love Me,” “Been Gone,” “2U,” “Fallen” featuring Drake, and “Table Dancer,” which reached #1 on Japan’s Billboard Digital Chart. Keshia Chanté’s well-documented legacy was further cemented when Drake cited her as “a real legend” while she performed at his OVO weekend All Canadian North Stars show, highlighting her as one of the iconic names in Canadian Hip Hop and R&B history, who helped paved the way for him and others to follow.
Young Cake
Brampton singer and songwriter Young Cake is best known for his ability to spit real bars while transcending into genres like R&B, Afrobeats and Dancehall. As a lyrical composer of Caribbean heritage, his versatility sets him apart from the crowd and makes him an outstanding emcee and musical mastermind.
Young Cake began his musical journey at a young age by watching his mother perform at events in the community. He’s seasoned, motivated and eager to make a mark on the industry as a fresh new voice out of Canada.
Ajhani Azure
Ajhani Azure (or Jhaz) is a songwriter, artist, producer, and vocalist from Brampton. Once you hear him, you’ll realize he stands out with a unique approach and sound. He aims to inspire others to push boundaries and break molds. He also wants to be a part of the first tide of a new wave of genre-defying and groundbreaking artists from his hometown.
He makes music that takes elements from every corner of every genre. His musical journey has infused Latin pop and Reggaeton, just as much as it has from jazz and RnB, soul and funk. This fusion of genres has crossed over into singles he’s released, such as “Alone”, True”, “Complicated” & “Sparkz”.
DuoTang
DuoTang is a four-piece indie-rock band that loves playing music. Inspired by all-time greats like the Beatles, the Band, B.B. King, Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan, to more modern influences like Coldplay, Wilco, Thundercat, Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes, DuoTang is ready to make their mark on the music world.
Formed in Brampton and writing songs together since March 2022, this vibey collective of musicians relish the time they have on stage with audiences. “We love every crowd we get to play in front of, no matter the size. Not only do we get to share an experience of playing and listening to music we (hopefully) all love, but we get closer and closer to being a better band than we were last show.” DuoTang has been playing regularly around the Greater Toronto Area and are releasing new music late 2023 working towards an EP in 2024.
DJ Andre 905
Andre is a DJ who knows how to connect across multimedia. In 2019, Andre launched a radio show on Vibe 105.5FM called Momentum on Vibe. He now has a weekly Saturday afternoon show called the No Cap Mix Show on Vibe 105.5FM. In addition, Andre was appointed as a Canadian representative for DJCity, the world’s largest DJ record pool, and BeatSource, the world’s largest DJ streaming platform. For 8 years and counting he has been the official DJ for the Raptors 905 NBA G-League basketball team and in 2020 started to transition to an artist and producer, releasing four singles and music videos. He also pioneered a 90’s inspired music project showcasing local talent from around the Greater Toronto Area.

Just for Laughs Jay Martin engages and entertains audiences with his clean yet hilarious comedy routines, Martin has carved a niche that no other comedian can fill quite like him. His skill and range in a number of areas has coined him the nickname of Canada’s Renaissance Man, and he wears it well. Martin is a JUNO award winner and has had the opportunity to host & open for several top acts such as Russell Peters, Steve Harvey, Kirk Franklin, Jamie Foxx, and Cedric The Entertainer.

Fireworks
The safety of residents is the City’s top priority. Under the new fireworks by-law, fireworks are no longer permitted in Brampton, except for City-led events. The City of Brampton prohibits the use, purchase, discharge, possession, display, sale and offer to sell fireworks in Brampton. Learn more about the by-law here.

Meet and Greet with Mayor Patrick Brown and Members of Council inside the atrium of City Hall to exchange best wishes and greetings for the year ahead. A free community skate will take place in Gage Park from 4 to 5 pm following the meet and greet.
