Ottawa – The Davis Cup will be returning to Montreal in 2024 for the Qualifier tie between Team Canada presented by Sobeys and the Republic of Korea. Held at IGA Stadium on Feb. 2 and 3, the tie will determine which country qualifies for the Group Stage of the Davis Cup Finals.
“We are thrilled to be coming back to Canada and to get the chance to play in front of a home crowd,” said Team Captain Frank Dancevic. “We know the tie against the Republic of Korea will not be easy, and we will need all the help we can get from the Canadian crowd to push us through to the Group Stage.”
“It’s with great excitement that we announce Montreal as the host city for Canada’s upcoming Davis Cup Qualifier tie,” said Valérie Tetreault, Tournament Director of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montreal. “The city of Montreal has proven time and again its love towards the game of tennis, and we can’t wait to experience that passion and support when our nation’s star players take to the court at IGA Stadium.” It will be the first time Canada hosts a Davis Cup tie since 2018, and the first time since 2012 that the event will be heading to Montreal, when Dancevic, Daniel Nestor, Vasek Pospisil, and Milos Raonic led Canada to a 4-1 victory over South Africa.
Canada is currently ranked as the No. 2 country in the Davis Cup rankings, while the Republic of Korea is No. 18. Canada won its only previous meeting against the South Korean team in 2022 during the Group Stage in Valencia, Spain. That same year, the Canadian squad earned a spot in the Final 8 and went on to win the country’s first-ever Davis Cup title.
Since their championship run in 2022, players selected to represent Canada’s Davis Cup team include Montreal’s Félix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriel Diallo, Alexis Galarneau, Pospisil, Raonic, Denis Shapovalov, and Kelsey Stevenson. For the Qualifier tie between Canada and South Korea, the team rosters will be announced in January. In early January, the match schedule will also be confirmed, and tickets for the tie will be available for purchase. To get access to our exclusive ticketing pre-sale, sign up here now.
