Advocating for Inclusive Obesity Care

eAwazMedicine

LA – Obesity (BMI > 30) is a complex chronic disease that affects people all over the world. Despite obesity being a leading risk factor for many other health conditions, it is often stigmatized. Many people living with obesity may face an increased barrier when it comes to accessing comprehensive obesity care including intensive behavioral therapy, dietician/nutrition services, anti-obesity medications and bariatric surgery.

If you have a family member, friend, colleague or are personally living with obesity there are ways you can take action to ensure there is access to comprehensive obesity care.

Learn about obesity. The more you know about the disease, the better equipped you might be to advocate for people living with the disease.

Talk to your elected officials. Let them know that personally, you support policies that promote access to obesity prevention and treatment.

Support, volunteer and engage organizations that are advocating for obesity care. There are many patient and health care organizations that are working to improve the lives of those living with obesity.
