Toronto – Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, met with Alberto Otárola Peñaranda, Prime Minister of Peru, and José Arista, Minister of Economy and Finance of Peru, on the margins of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Annual Convention.
Minister Ng congratulated Minister Arista on his Cabinet appointment. She highlighted the 80-year history of diplomatic relations between Canada and Peru and the importance of our bilateral trade and investment relationship.
The 3 ministers exchanged views on avenues for greater collaboration between Canada and Peru in the mining, critical minerals and infrastructure sectors. Minister Ng noted progress in these key areas of Canadian investment and conveyed the Government of Canada’s commitment to encouraging responsible business conduct by Canadian companies in Peru.
Minister Ng also expressed Canada’s support for Peru in its role as the chair of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, where members will work together to advance shared goals for small- and medium-sized enterprises, women in trade, environmental sustainability and food security.
Noting that this year marks the 15th anniversary of the Canada-Peru Free Trade Agreement, Minister Ng stated that she looks forward to working with Peru to advance our growing commercial relationship.
