New York City – François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, concluded a two-day visit to New York City as part of the Team Canada engagement strategy with the US. Minister Champagne met with Gary Cohn, Vice Chairman of IBM, to discuss ways Canada and the U.S. can work closer together to strengthen and secure semiconductor supply chains in North America.

The Minister also met with top executives at Cerberus Capital Management, including former U.S. vice president Dan Quayle and former U.S. secretary of the treasury John Snow. He also met with the CEO of BlackRock, Larry Fink, and with TD Bank’s President and CEO, Leo Salom.

While in New York, the Minister also participated in an editorial board meeting at Bloomberg and was the featured guest at a fireside chat hosted by Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, where he spoke about ways to foster innovation and the responsible use of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence.

The Team Canada engagement strategy is aimed at advocating for and safeguarding Canada’s interests in the US while ensuring key stakeholders on both sides of the border recognize and understand the deep and strategic nature of our two countries’ relationship.

“More than half of Canadian direct investment abroad goes to the U.S., while US investments represent nearly half of all foreign direct investment in Canada. From critical minerals to batteries and semiconductors, it is important that we work together to strengthen and secure our supply chains in key strategic sectors that support millions of good jobs on both sides of the border, driving North American innovation and competitiveness.” – François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry
