New report details plan to implement recommendations from Enforcement Operational Review to enhance efficiency, effectiveness and compliance
BRAMPTON – Following the release of the Enforcement Operational Review, a report commissioned by the City of Brampton to enhance efficiency, effectiveness and compliance of the City’s by-laws and operations, in a press conference on Monday, June 3, Mayor Patrick Brown announced a plan to begin initiating the 28 recommendations made in the review.
Following approval of a report at today’s Committee of Council meeting, as a critical first step, the City will implement a Stabilization Staffing Model, which includes an investment to hire 38 additional By-law Enforcement Officers and two support positions. This investment will also support the expansion of the Enforcement and By-law Division’s fleet and equipment. These new positions and equipment will ensure the recommendations can be implemented while improving Enforcement and By-Law Services’ ability to address community concerns such as parking and property standards. City Staff will also begin streamlining processes and exploring technological solutions to ensure the division can continue achieving compliance with the local by-laws that make Brampton a safe community for all.
The City of Brampton will continue to operate its service request system under a call priority model, which prioritizes calls with the most significant impact on community safety. High-priority service requests could include fireworks, failure to remove snow and excessively loud music, which create public health risks and nuisance issues.
Recognizing resident needs evolve as Brampton grows, the City continues to review its by-laws and enforcement measures to reflect the community’s needs and values. The City will also continue to monitor the progress of these initiatives and adjust as needed to ensure the successful implementation of all recommendations from the Enforcement Operational Review. City Staff will report to Council on the progress of implementing these recommendations with the first update anticipated in the fall of 2024.
