Government of Canada investment to help Innovative Trailer Design Industries enhance manufacturing capabilities of its electric transport trailers
Etobicoke – The future of Canada’s transportation sector is green. Countries around the world are working to seize the economic opportunities associated with a net-zero future, and so it is important to capitalize on Canadian-made clean technologies, manufacturing practices and innovations to enhance our place on the global stage and bring new sustainable practices to market.
As the transportation sector shifts to electrification, Innovative Trailer Design Industries Inc. (ITD) is working to strengthen Canada’s position as a leader in zero-emissions transportation equipment. Over the years, ITD, a commercial transportation equipment manufacturer and technology business, has experienced significant demand for its trailers, including chassis, vans and specialty trailers.
On behalf of Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, James Maloney, Member of Parliament for Etobicoke–Lakeshore, visited ITD to meet with employees and learn about its plan for growth which includes integrating new advanced manufacturing and robotics technologies into its operations to increase its trailer manufacturing capabilities and bring new electric trailer products to market. To support these efforts, MP Maloney announced an over $2.7 million investment, towards the over $11 million project.
The new electric trailers will leverage solar power and regenerative braking technologies, which will power electric refrigerated units on its trailers, as well as reduce fuel consumption, leading to savings in operating costs. The company is working to bring these electric trailers to market this summer, which would provide significant environmental benefits.
Across Canada, businesses are pioneering ideas for clean tech innovations and solutions. Together we are turning these ideas into a reality to ensure a cleaner future for all.
“Ontario’s manufacturing industry is a key driver for our national economy and our government is investing in the people that make it run. By investing in companies like Innovative Trailer Design Industries Inc., we will work together to put cleaner solutions on the road to ensure a healthy environment for generations.” – Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario)
