Ottawa – Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) has a framework in place to protect against wrongdoing and to safeguard the integrity of the federal procurement system. This includes taking action in response to allegations that the Government of Canada is being overbilled or defrauded in either a specific contract or on a broader scale.
An investigation by PSPC found that, between January 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021, an individual undertook contract work with 8 separate Government of Canada departments and Crown corporations through 8 different primary contractors.
The government took swift action and, through its Industrial Security Sector, suspended the security clearance of the consultant on June 28, 2021, subsequently revoked it on September 23, 2023, and referred the matter to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
PSPC is pleased that the RCMP chose to pursue this investigation. Today’s announcement indicates the government will not tolerate illegal activities and will bring fraudulent billing schemes to justice. However, as this legal matter is before the courts, PSPC will not provide additional details at this time.
