Toronto – As Torontonians dive into their summer reading lists, the City of Toronto and Toronto Public Library (TPL) are pleased to announce the books longlisted for the 2024 Toronto Book Awards. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Toronto Book Awards originally established by Toronto City Council in 1974 to honour books of literary merit that are inspired by the diverse stories that shape Toronto.

The shortlist will be released later this summer with the winner announced at a ceremony in early November. The annual award offers $15,000 in prize money, with each shortlisted finalist granted $1,000 and $10,000 awarded to the winner.
The esteemed Canadian writers and literary advocates sitting on this year’s jury include Desmond Cole, Anthony De Sa, Jane Farrow, Rabindranath Maharaj and Kerri Sakamoto.
