International fishing championships to reel in visitors

Fredericton – Unique tourism experiences play an important role in attracting visitors to our communities and strengthening our economy. The Government of Canada is investing to support the 2024 Pan-American Black Bass Championships, to be hosted in Fredericton and Nackawic, New Brunswick next month.

Jenica Atwin, MP for Fredericton announced a non-repayable contribution of $81,000 through ACOA’s Tourism Growth Program (TGP) for the Canadian International Sportfishing Association (CISA). The announcement was made on behalf of Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA.

This support will help CISA with marketing activities, boat rentals, venue rental, and operational expenses for the upcoming 2024 Pan American Black Bass Championships, taking place from September 24 to 29, 2024. The event is expected to attract 150-200 participants and an estimated 400 fans, family, friends, and supporters, all converging in New Brunswick for this five-day event.

Today’s announcement further demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to building on Atlantic Canada’s momentum by strengthening our communities, creating new opportunities, and setting the stage for a strong, sustainable future.
