Mayor Olivia Chow, Councillor Anthony Perruzza (Humber River-Black Creek) and Raptors President Masai Ujiri, co-founder of Giants of Africa, unveiled two revitalized basketball courts at Firgrove Park.

The courts were officially unveiled during a community event, which also featured a youth basketball clinic conducted for boys and girls, led by NBA personnel, Raptors Development coaches and Giants of Africa coaches.

The project, which is part of Giants of Africa’s mission to empower youth through sports, was made possible through sponsorship from George Brown College with support from the City of Toronto and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.

The City is committed to working with community and corporate partners to help advance resident access to recreational spaces that foster community engagement. The revitalized Firgrove Park highlights the impact of strategic partnerships on community development.

For more than 20 years, Giants of Africa has been committed to using basketball as a tool to inspire, educate and uplift young people across Africa and now in Toronto as their first international project. The courts align with Giants of Africa’s commitment to empowering youth and embracing the diverse African diaspora community residing in Canada.

“We are thrilled to open the basketball courts at Firgrove Park, creating a safe and vibrant space for our youth to play, learn and grow. This is not just about basketball; it’s about building a community where dreams can take flight.” – Mayor Olivia Chow
