Alberta – Mickey Amery,Alberta’s Minister of Justice, met with the US counterparts in DC. He said: “My mission to Texas, alongside cabinet colleague Mike Ellis, Alberta’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services and Deputy Premier, was a great opportunity to share best practices in justice and policing, build relationships, and promote collaboration between Alberta and the state of Texas.”
Highlights of our engagement included:
Strengthening Alberta’s presence in public safety: “We met with representatives from the Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott to reinforce Alberta’s commitment to public safety, including border security along Alberta’s border with the United States.”
Advancing justice technology and policy: Discussions with the Texas Business Court, Office of Court Administration, and judges from the Supreme Court of Texas and Court of Criminal Appeals focused on policy and technological innovations to to continue advancing Alberta’s Justice Digital work and increase access to justice for Albertans.
Learning from law enforcement partnerships: Meetings with district attorneys, police chiefs, deputies, and the Texas Department of Public Safety provided valuable insights into fostering positive relationships between prosecutors and law enforcement.
Exploring forensic technology advancements: Engagements with the Dallas County Medical Examiner and other officials highlighted their administrative approaches and use of cutting-edge forensic technologies.
Engagements during this mission offered critical insights into policing and justice systems which would help strengthen Alberta’s systems, increase access to justice and improve public safety at home.
