Toronto – Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, delivered a keynote address to kick off the Africa Accelerating 2023 conference in Toronto, Ontario. During the conference, Minister Ng discussed Canada’s efforts to advance trade and investment priorities and deepen economic cooperation between Canada and the countries of Africa.
Minister Ng highlighted Canada’s support for the African Continental Free Trade Area, which established a continent-wide, open, rules-based trade and investment system to foster intra-African trade and has created opportunities for Canadian exporters and investors. She also noted the work under way on the Canada-Africa Economic Cooperation Strategy, which will advance sustainable, inclusive, long-term trade and economic partnerships.
Minister Ng concluded her attendance by meeting with Vital Kamerhe, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Economy of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Minister Ng and the Deputy Prime Minister discussed strengthening and diversifying commercial trade and investment ties between Canada and the DRC, particularly in the mining, infrastructure and clean technology sectors.
