Special Envoy for Syria visit Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon

Ottawa – Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that Omar Alghabra, Canada’s Special Envoy for Syria, will visit Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon to consult with a range of stakeholders, including government officials, subject matter experts, regional actors and international partners, on promoting inclusive governance and the protection of human rights in Syria.

During his trip, Special Envoy Alghabra exchanged views on how Canadian efforts can best support the immediate delivery of humanitarian assistance to Syria. He reiterated Canada’s commitment to contribute to a peaceful and inclusive political transition in Syria and to support the Syrian people as they rebuild a Syria in which all citizens, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, or background, can live with dignity and security.
