TIMMINS — The Ontario government is breaking ground on a new health care facility for the Francophone community in Timmins and the surrounding area. The Centre de santé communautaire de Timmins (CSC Timmins) is receiving $1.1 million for early planning work in addition to the $15.6 million the province will be investing to support construction of the new facility.

“Our government is continuing to take action to connect Ontarians to more convenient care, closer to home,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “The new Centre de santé communautaire de Timmins facility will connect the Francophone community in the region to the comprehensive and culturally appropriate health care services they need in one modern location, for years to come.”

CSC Timmins currently provides programs and services such as primary care, mental health and addictions support, and early childhood and chronic disease services in two temporary locations. This investment will enable the team to connect people to care in a new, modern facility at one convenient location.

Once complete, the new CSC Timmins will be able to provide Franco Ontarians in the community with access to approximately 18,000 primary care visits and connect up to 20,000 people to the centre’s comprehensive health programs each year. Medical students will also be able to receive hands-on, onsite practical training under the supervision of a family physician, building on the government’s actions to date to invest in the doctors of tomorrow and bolster the province’s health workforce to provide care for growing and underserved communities.

“Ensuring all Ontarians have access to high quality health care continues to be at the forefront as our government strengthens publicly-funded health care in every corner of the province,” said Nolan Quinn, Parliamentary Assistant for Health. “This investment will help break ground on a state-of-the-art community health centre to serve Timmins’ Francophone community, making health care more accessible in their native language.” Through Your Health: A Plan For Connected and Convenient Care, Ontario is making it easier and faster for people of all ages to connect to the care they need, where and when they need it.
