Safety & Health Week Events Focus on Community, Psychologically Healthy Workplaces

Hamilton – The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is offering free virtual events to help celebrate Safety and Health Week from May 1-6, 2023.  Safety and Health Week is an ideal time for employers, employees, partners, and the public to focus on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home, and in the community.

The week will start with a national launch hosted by Safety and Health Week’s partners and will continue with virtual sessions on psychological health and inclusion in the workplace. The week will conclude with a guided meditation.

Monday, May 1: Safety and Health Week 2023 National Launch
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EDT

CCOHS, the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) and Threads of Life will kick off Safety and Health Week with inspirational stories and the announcement of the Focus on Safety National Youth Video Contest winners.

Tuesday, May 2: Your Role in Workplace Psychological Health
1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. EDT

Mary Ann Baynton, Director of Collaboration and Strategy at Workplace Strategies for Mental Health, and Emma Ashurst, Inquiries and Technical Services Manager at CCOHS, will discuss why having a psychologically healthy workplace is important and how all levels of employees can participate.

Wednesday, May 3: Fostering an Inclusive Workplace
1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. EDT

Sharon DeSousa, National Executive Vice President at the Public Service Alliance of Canada, and Yvone Defreitas, Director of Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness at CCOHS, will have a conversation about how to make space for others and talk through employees’ needs in the workplace.

Thursday, May 4: Midday Meditation
11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EDT

Improve focus, lower stress and increase productivity with a 30-minute midday guided meditation session.
