BRAMPTON – The City of Brampton invites residents to join in celebrating Lunar New Year and welcoming the Year of the Dragon, in partnership with the Brampton Chinese Business Association. Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among East and Southeast Asian cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean communities, among others.
The celebration represents the start of a new year according to the lunar calendar. The lunar calendar is represented by one of 12 zodiac animals: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. Each culture celebrates Lunar New Year differently with various foods and traditions symbolizing prosperity, abundance and togetherness.
Lunar New Year begins on Saturday, February 10, 2024, and welcomes the Year of the Dragon. The Year of the Dragon, specifically the Wood Dragon, symbolizes growth, progress, inspiration and innovation. It signifies a great year to start new projects and explore new possibilities.
