Brampton enhances animal licencing system

BRAMPTON – As of November 1, Brampton residents can now purchase one-year or two-year dog and cat licences to help keep their pets safe. The City of Brampton has enhanced its pet licencing system by changing the calendar year expiry to 365 or 730 days from the date of purchase.
Residents who purchase a pet licence will also now receive a “smart” pet tag. Each owner will receive one tag per pet. Pet tags help ensure that if a pet gets lost, animal services can quickly reunite them with their family. Tags lost within the first year can be replaced for a $5 fee. Damaged tags and tags lost after the first year will be replaced for free. The new smart tag system will not only help reunite lost pets with their owners, but it is a more sustainable approach to pet tags, ensuring that used tags don’t end up in the garbage each year.
Licensing your pet is important. No one expects their pet to go missing, but accidents happen, and licensing is the best way to ensure that lost pets get home safely. Under municipal by-laws, all dogs and cats in Brampton must be licensed with the City. Money collected from licenses goes back to helping care for the animals that come through the City’s shelter doors every day. Residents can license their pet today online, in-person, by telephone or by mail.
