Souris – Tourism drives economic development and diversification for many communities across Atlantic Canada. At the eastern tip of Prince Edward Island, Michael and Chastity Smith have been building a top culinary destination resort, garnering world-wide attention and visitation to the Island since 2015. That is why the Government of Canada is investing to help The Inn at Bay Fortune continue to build on their reputation for excellence in hospitality.
Investment will support new event space and accommodation upgrades
Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Member of Parliament for Cardigan, announced a repayable contribution of $220,000 through the Tourism Growth Program (TGP) to The Inn at Bay Fortune. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA.
This investment will support the creation of the Farmhouse Event Space and the modernization of the Tower Room accommodation suites. The new 3,300 square foot event space will function as a fully operational greenhouse, providing fresh sustainable produce year-round, and create an innovative tourism offering integrated into the Inn’s farm-to-table gastronomy. The property improvements to existing heritage buildings will enhance guest accommodations to match the high standards of the inn’s culinary experiences.
Today’s announcement further demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to diversifying regional economies by investing in tourism products and experiences that will encourage visitation to and within Canada.
