Jasper – Jasper National Park will be ready to welcome campers for the 2025 summer season, offering a range of recreational experiences that showcase the park’s natural beauty as part of its ongoing recovery and restoration. Visitors planning to travel to Jasper are encouraged to check what’s open before their trip. Summer Offer and Camping Availability

After thorough assessments after wildfire damage, dedicated crews are undertaking critical work to ensure most campgrounds are open and staffed in 2025. Jasper National Park’s campgrounds host thousands of campers each night, bringing much needed tourism traffic to local businesses. Jasper National Park will offer a variety of camping options, including:

Frontcountry Camping

  • Overall Camping Capacity: The majority of Jasper’s frontcountry campsites, and all backcountry campsites, will be available in 2025.
  • Whistlers Campground: Jasper’s biggest campground, with 781 sites, is expected to be fully open to visitors.
  • Wapiti Campground: Open with reduced capacity.
  • Miette Campground: Fully open to visitors.
  • Self Registration Campgrounds: Includes Snaring River, Kerkeslin, Jonas, Honeymoon Lake, Wilcox, Icefield Tent and Icefield Centre RV, with some sites offering extended seasons for increased access.
  • Reservations: Booking for all reservable sites starts January 2025. Booking dates will be announced by Parks Canada on November 14, 2024.
  • Closed for 2025: Wabasso Campground and Whirlpool Group Campground.

Backcountry Camping

  • Availability: All backcountry campsites will be open and available for booking in 2025 through the Parks Canada Reservation System.
  • Trailheads: Some backcountry trailheads, such as Astoria and Wabasso Lake, are still under assessment for reopening. Backcountry campers should be aware that this may impact trip itineraries. Any updates regarding these trailheads will be communicated when available.
  • Reservations: Booking dates for backcountry sites will be announced by Parks Canada on November 14, 2024.

Jasper National Park is Ready for Summer

Jasper National Park is set to welcome Canadians and international visitors for the 2025 summer season, showcasing the park’s natural beauty and wide array of recreational opportunities. The park has already reopened many of its popular destination points, inviting visitors to explore and enjoy the best of what Jasper has to offer. From hiking and viewing wildlife to water-based activities at lakes, beaches and waterways, the park supports a full summer of exploration and fun. While some areas such as Maligne Canyon and the Valley of the Five Lakes continue to be assessed and monitored for hazards, many other popular sites and trails are open and ready to be visited.

Significant efforts have been made to ensure the safe reopening of visitor areas, including hazard removal, trail assessments, infrastructure repairs, and the restoration of essential services such as emergency response, visitor safety, garbage collection, washroom maintenance and facilities management. Parks Canada has collaborated closely with tourism partners, the Municipality of Jasper, and other agencies to make these reopenings possible, enabling visitors to experience the wonders of Jasper National Park this summer.

2025 United Nations International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation

In alignment with the 2025 United Nations International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation, Parks Canada will present special programming to highlight the importance of glacial ecosystems.

  • Columbia Icefield Programming: Visitors will find interpreters on-site at the Columbia Icefield, engaging with the public on the vital role of glaciers and watersheds.
  • Exhibit Partnership: Jasper National Park is partnering with Guardians of the Ice to present a new exhibit at the Icefield Centre Glacier Gallery, showcasing the remarkable beauty and significance of glacial landscapes.

2025 Interpretive Programs

Jasper National Park is set to provide a wide range of interpretive programs throughout 2025. These engaging programs will be offered free of charge and include:

  • Whistlers Campground Theatre and Firehall Programs: A variety of interactive and informative sessions will be presented.
  • Thematic Focus: Programs will prominently feature themes related to the Jasper Wildfire and its ecological impacts, with interpreters positioned near fire-affected areas to share insights and knowledge.
  • Indigenous-Led Programming: The park will highlight Indigenous partner-led public programs, offering visitors unique cultural perspectives and teachings delivered on the land.
