BRAMPTON– The City of Brampton proudly celebrated a historic milestone with the official groundbreaking event for Brampton’s second hospital at the Peel Memorial site. This long-awaited development will significantly expand health care services for the city’s growing population, marking a major step forward in strengthening Brampton’s health care infrastructure. The event also coincides with the 100th anniversary of Peel Memorial, recognizing its century-long legacy of serving the community.
The Province of Ontario has committed an unprecedented $2.3 billion towards this vital project, ensuring that Brampton’s health care capacity meets the demands of today and the future. The development of Brampton’s second hospital is made possible by the leadership and vision of William Osler Health System and its Foundation.
Building on this commitment, Brampton’s 2025 Budget prioritizes investments that will strengthen the city’s health care infrastructure. The City has earmarked $10 million for the TMU School of Medicine, to expand medical education and innovation. Additionally, $81.1 million in reserves to date and $4.9 million in levies have been dedicated to supporting the transformation of Peel Memorial, reinforcing Brampton’s efforts to secure accessible, high-quality health care for its residents.
Community support continues to play a critical role in advancing health care in Brampton. Last year, Mayor Brown’s Hockey Night in Brampton raised a record-breaking $14 million for the William Osler Health System Foundation, in support of the new hospital. As one of the largest community charity hockey games in Canadian history, the event highlights the strength and generosity of the Brampton community and its commitment to building a stronger local health care system. This year’s event will take place August 20, 2025.
The City of Brampton remains committed to working in partnership with all levels of government, industry partners and the community to support the continued growth and development of Brampton’s health care system. Today’s groundbreaking is just the beginning of an exciting and advanced future for health care in Brampton.
“Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly to make today a reality. Your passion and hard work are at the heart of this project. I am deeply grateful to the province, our Council, the generous donors, and the amazing staff and dedicated volunteers across the Osler family. Our new second hospital will not only expand access to healthcare, but it fulfills a sacred promise to our families, our friends and our neighbours to deliver on building a brighter and healthier future for all.” – Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton
