Brampton – For the 21st year in a row, the City of Brampton is being recognized for its excellence in financial reporting. The City of Brampton has once again won the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAnFR) from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.
Every year, the award recognizes the highest standard in government accounting and financial reporting. This award is being presented for the City’s 2021 Annual Financial Report and represents significant accomplishment by local government and its management.
The CAnFR Award Program was established to encourage municipal governments in Canada to publish high-quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports.
The City won the award by exceeding the minimum requirements of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles set out by the Public Sector Accounting Board of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada, and by preparing a comprehensive and high-quality annual financial report, rooted in the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.
The annual financial report has been judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” designed to clearly communicate Brampton’s financial story and to motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
“This award and the track record of the City of Brampton’s financial team is nothing less than spectacular. We hold ourselves accountable, with a commitment to transparency, openness and fiscal responsibility. Brampton is a well-run city, and this award is another piece that proves that.” – Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton
