Brampton seeks innovative approaches to charge personal-use EVs

eAwazLocal News

BRAMPTON – The City of Brampton has launched an Expression of Interest (REOI) to provide companies with an opportunity to test innovative technology and infrastructure to support electric vehicles (EV) for personal-use. As part of its goal to promote the adoption of environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional cars and lower their carbon footprint, the two-year pilot project will also promote economic development and environmental sustainability.
This REOI further aligns with the regulations on electric vehicle sales mandates in Canada, outlining a Government of Canada goal to eliminate the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035. The market for EVs in Canada continues to expand rapidly. For the technology to become an integral part of a successful, sustainable transportation system and contribute to the decarbonization of the transportation sector, public access to EV charging is imperative to facilitating widespread EV adoption.
As a leading city making significant contributions to the zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) sector, with major investments and developments from key players, including Magna and Stellantis, Brampton is well-positioned as a hub for innovation and progress in sustainable transportation. Currently, the City of Brampton owns and operates 64 Level 2 EV charging stations on City properties, including City Hall, West Tower, Rose Theatre and several recreation centres.
The City of Brampton continues to be a leader in environmental innovation and is taking steps to achieve a zero-carbon transition in Brampton and a more sustainable future for residents.
