Brampton temporarily suspends open-air burn permits

eAwazLocal News

BRAMPTON – The City of Brampton does not allow open-air burning without a burn permit. Due to recent extreme weather and fire conditions, permits are currently not being issued.  The Open Fires By-Law 91-94 states:
• The City of Brampton does not permit open-air burning on property that is zoned residential. This includes fireplaces, chimineas, and bonfires.
Outdoor fires that are usually allowed on a property (with a permit) that the City has zoned agricultural or estate residential (meaning that the property is two or more acres in size and in these cases, there must be at least five meters of space clear of combustible material around the edge of the fire pit.) are suspended.  The City of Brampton has been experiencing a sustained period of dry, hot weather.    The hot and dry conditions combined with a lack of precipitation has led to an increase in fire danger ratings across the province.
Help keep Brampton healthy and safe
This temporary hold on burn permits is to prevent human-caused fires at a time in which dry conditions and low precipitation could cause flames to spread.  Brampton residents play an important role in adapting to climate change and helping mitigate potential fires. By abiding City by-laws, we can ensure a safer community for all.  For more information, visit www.brampton.ca.
