Mississauga – The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is committed to disrupting the flow of illicit drugs from entering Canada and preventing danger to our communities. The CBSA announced today the seizure of 29 kg of suspected cocaine, found in a commercial aircraft.
On November 30, 2023, border services officers working with the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Region Specialized Border Interdiction Unit examined a plane arriving from Guyana at Toronto Pearson International Airport. A GTA Region detector dog services team was brought in and the canine indicated positive on one bag. Upon inspecting the contents of the bag, officers discovered 25 brick-shaped packages that were found to contain the suspected cocaine.
Our continued collaboration with all of our partners, including the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, is of the utmost importance to the CBSA and contributes greatly to protecting our borders and our communities.
“The importation of illicit drugs leads to increased crime in our communities, narcotics abuse and possibly deaths by overdose. Officers in the Greater Toronto Area Region remain vigilant in our work to ensure the safety of all Canadians.” – Lisa Janes, Regional Director General, Canada Border Services Agency, Greater Toronto Area Region
