Fire & Emergency Services urges to test smoke alarms

eAwazLocal News

BRAMPTON – The City of Brampton is proud to support the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM)’s ‘Saved By The Beep’ campaign, an important initiative aimed at raising awareness about fire safety and the critical role of smoke alarms. On Saturday, September 28, the campaign will emphasize the importance of regularly testing smoke alarms and having a home fire escape plan.
As part of Ontario’s second Test Your Smoke Alarm Day, Brampton residents are encouraged to participate in this community safety event. The Saved By The Beep campaign is a collaborative effort led by OFM, with support from community stakeholders, agencies and sponsors to promote fire safety across the province.
Join us on September 28, as we aim to set a record for the most people pledging to test their smoke alarms on Test Your Smoke Alarm Day. Our goal is to reach 50,000 pledges in honour of Brampton’s 50th birthday. Residents can pledge online or in-person at the event.

Test Your Smoke Alarm Day

Date: Saturday, September 28, 2024
Time: 10am to 2pm
Location: Cassie Campbell Community Centre

Fire Safety Tips:

  • Test Your Smoke Alarms: Ensure smoke alarms are working by pressing and holding the test button monthly. Replace batteries regularly.
  • Replace Old Smoke Alarms: Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years as they wear out over time.
  • Compliance: The Ontario Fire Code requires working smoke alarms on every level of the home and outside all sleeping areas. Non-compliance may result in a fine.
