Pak HC and Consulate celebrate National Day of Pakistan

Ottawa – The National Day of Pakistan was commemorated at the High Commission of Pakistan in Ottawa, and the Consulate General in Toronto, with traditional patriotic fervour. High Commissioner Muhammad Saleem hoisted the national flag in a graceful ceremony attended by members of the Pakistani Community, High Commission staff, students and friends of Pakistan at the Chancery premises.

Special Messages of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on this auspicious occasion were read out to the audience. The Messages reaffirmed the commitment to realize the vision of the founding fathers to make Pakistan a strong and prosperous country. In his address, the High Commissioner paid tribute to the visionary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the countless sacrifices made by the nation’s forefathers. He underscored Pakistan’s remarkable achievements in various fields including economic growth, technological advancement and contributions to global peace and security amid daunting challenges over the last seven decades.

The High Commissioner emphasized the significance of strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Canada in all domains including political, economic, higher education and cultural exchanges. The event concluded with special prayers for the prosperity of the motherland.

The Consulate General of Pakistan, Toronto also held the Flag Hoisting Ceremony in connection with National Day of Pakistan. The event was attended by Bill Blair, Minister of National Defence of Canada, Zee Hamid, Associate Minister, Robert Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Michael Coteau, Member of Parliament, Andrea Hazel, Member of Pronvincial Parliament, Sheref Sabawy, Member of Provincial Parliament, Malika Ghous, School Board Trustee and Isa Lee, Councillor, Representative for Mayor City of Markham.

A large number of Pakistani community members attended the event. The Consul General formally welcomed all dignitaries and community members. He shared the importance that 23 March holds in our struggle for establishment of a separate homeland. Furthermore, messages of President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read to the audience. The dignitaries also shared their thoughts on Pakistan Day, praising the strength and resilience of Pakistan nation and lessons that canadians can learn from the wisdom of our founding father, Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The Consul General presented souvenirs to the dignitaries as a token of thanks. In the end the Consul General raised the flag to the tune of the National Anthem. The representatives of host country and Pakistan community members participated with full zeal and enthusiasm.
