CIHR-JDRF Partnership to Defeat Diabetes

eAwazMedicine

Ottawa – Through a longstanding partnership, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and JDRF Canada support research to improve the prevention, screening, management, and treatment of diabetes in Canada. Together, CIHR and JDRF are providing $33M to support 12 diabetes research teams. The teams will focus their research on diverse aspects of diabetes care: four teams will work on precision medicine projects, tailoring treatments to specific individuals and groups; seven teams will study effective interventions and models of care that address the psychosocial, behavioural, and emotional impact of diabetes; and one team will study the feasibility and acceptability of a national program to screen for type 1 diabetes to enable earlier diagnosis and avoid serious complications that can occur at the time of diagnosis.
