Fatigue Prevention Course for Seafarers

eAwazMedicine

Hamilton – The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) has launched a free online course, in partnership with Transport Canada, to help those who work in the marine industry mitigate the risks associated with fatigue at sea. The one-hour Fatigue Management at Sea course explains what fatigue is, how to avoid it, and how to reduce its effects. Seafarers and authorized representatives who are responsible for mitigating the risk of fatigue at sea will also gain an understanding of the regulations governing fatigue management, and the role they play in prevention. More information about the online course is available on the CCOHS website.

“Workplace fatigue can be considered a form of impairment, making it a workplace hazard. We need to make sure we’re raising awareness and providing resources to help prevent the risks associated with fatigue in all workplaces.”  – Anne Tennier, President and CEO, Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)

“The safety of Canadians is always our highest priority. I encourage our marine workers to take the online course so they’re better able to recognize, prevent and reduce the risks of fatigue, and help reinforce a culture of safety in the marine industry.” – Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Transport
