Akhtar Mengal, head of the Balochistan National Party (BNP), has announced he will challenge the Mines and Minerals Act in court, calling it a violation of the 18th Amendment of Pakistan’s Constitution.

Speaking at a press conference in Quetta, Mengal said the new legislation undermines the constitutional rights of provinces over their natural resources.

He clarified that BNP’s recent protest was not part of any deal, but rather a reflection of the public’s demands.

Mengal also strongly criticized the idea of using petrol price savings as a form of charity for Balochistan, saying:

“Charity runs orphanages — it doesn’t fix provincial neglect.”
