BRAMPTON – Mayor Brown, Members of Council and the community came together to celebrate Cricket Canada’s Men’s National team qualifying for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024. This is the first time Cricket Canada’s Men’s National team has qualified for the World Cup. The City of Brampton, the cricket capital of Canada, is so proud of the talented group of men who will represent Canada.
Cricket is the fastest-growing sport in Brampton and throughout the world. The City is committed to supporting individuals who play cricket in the community and will continue to prioritize making the sport more accessible to residents. The City of Brampton congratulates the coaches and players of Cricket Canada’s Men’s National team!
Cricket in Brampton Highlights
- This past summer, the City of Brampton hosted the GT20 Tournament, welcoming some of the top international cricket players and some of the biggest names in the sport.
- The City’s cricket amenities host 42 unique seasonal organizations, tournaments and individuals that book over 14,000 hours of field time.
- Brampton is home to 13 cricket sites and growing! Over the last three years, Brampton has invested more than $2 million in over 20 enhancements to cricket amenities to meet the needs of residents and sports organizations.
- The City continues to prioritize community needs with $7 million allocated for future projects, including a fully lit cricket field at Turner Fenton Secondary School, Creditview Sandalwood Park, and three new fields at Gore Meadows East Community Park.
- The City Lands project is a proposed redevelopment of the municipal-owned site at Kennedy Road South, Highway 410 and 407, at the CAA sports and entertainment facility that includes a new state-of-the-art, multi-purpose cricket facility.
