The Government of Canada is fueling local community revitalization and creating the conditions for the economy of the future
Fall River/Waverley – Canadian cities and towns flourish when they have community public spaces to promote social interaction and physical activity, and provide access to recreational programs and facilities. Having access to vibrant, interactive spaces is important for health and wellbeing in every corner of our country. Breathing new life into our communities also stimulates local economies, creates jobs, and improves the quality of life for Canadians.
This week, Darrell Samson, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minster of Veterans Affairs, Associate Minister of National Defence, and Member of Parliament for Sackville—Preston—Chezzetcook, announced total investments of $169,900 through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) for two projects in Fall River and Waverley. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA.
A $125,000 contribution to L.W.F. Hardball Association will help the volunteer-run sports group build two new baseball fields and upgrade an existing football field. The project will create and maintain approximately 14,000 square metres of outdoor recreational space where local athletes and families can gather and stay active. With more space, surrounding communities will be able to enjoy bigger tournaments, more games, and additional programming for athletes, including people with disabilities.
Another local volunteer group, the Waverley Amateur Athletic Association, will use a $44,900 contribution to build an accessible outdoor pavillion at the Charles L. McDonald Sports Park.
Situated along the Shubenacadie Canal, the Park includes baseball fields and trails where community members walk, hike, bike, ski, snowshoe, canoe, kayak, and play sports. The new pavillion will add value to the Park by creating a place for groups to hold meetings and events – offering more ways for residents to come together and connect.
