Quebec – The City of Quebec announces the end of improvement work on the Wilfrid-Hamel swimming pool and its official reopening recently. Started in spring 2022 and carried out at a cost of $6.5 million, the major renovation work made it possible to modernize the facilities dating from 1981.
Notable improvements include:
- Complete renovation of the pool and promenade, incorporating rinsing showers and replacement of aquatic equipment;
- A reorganization of the locker rooms with redesigned equipment to better serve families and customers with reduced mobility;
- Complete replacement of the pool’s ventilation, plumbing, electrical and mechanical equipment;
- Renovation of the building envelope, including the replacement of existing doors, frames and windows;
- Replacement of exterior ventilation grilles;
- Upgrading fire resistance and localized roof repairs.
“The renovation of the Wilfrid-Hamel swimming pool is part of a series of projects presented in the Aquatic Master Plan unveiled in 2021,” underlined the person responsible for leisure, sports and community life on the executive committee, Mr. Jean-François Gosselin. In this plan, the City has committed to investing $88.7 million to improve, modernize and make the various aquatic facilities accessible. We are happy to offer citizens of the La Cité-Limoilou district modern and sustainable local facilities to have fun and learn to swim in complete safety. »
