Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has strongly criticized the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over restrictions related to family protocols during international tours.
According to media reports, Kohli, while attending a Royal Challengers Bangalore event before the start of the IPL, said, “No player wants to be alone and feel down during foreign tours.”
Without directly naming BCCI, Kohli took a veiled dig at the board, stating, “After a bad performance during a tour, you cannot just sit alone and feel depressed. I want to stay normal, and then I work on my game.”
He further added, “If you ask any player whether having their family with them is important, the answer will always be yes. I would never want to miss a chance to spend time with my family. After a stressful situation, meeting family is necessary, but I don’t think people understand this.”
BCCI’s New Restrictions
Earlier, the Indian cricket board introduced new family protocol restrictions following India’s humiliating defeats—first in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, and then in a home series loss to New Zealand.
Under the new BCCI guidelines, players will only be allowed to spend limited time with their families during foreign tours, a decision that has left many cricketers frustrated.
As per the board’s rules, during a 45-day tour, players will not be allowed to have their families with them for more than 14 days, which has sparked discontent among the players.
