BRAMPTON – The City of Brampton shared details about its plans to honour and celebrate its 50th birthday campaign, Chapter 50: Telling the story of Brampton’s past, present and future. The campaign, to be ratified by City Council next week, includes plans for the City’s 50th birthday (since being incorporated) on January 1, 2024. Brampton is Canada’s 9th largest city, moving from a small population of 500 in 1853 to nearly 700,000 today. It is the fastest growing of Canada’s largest 25 cities and has a diverse community with 250 cultures speaking 171 languages.
To commemorate 50 vibrant years of Brampton’s growth and diversity, the City of Brampton will host a series of events, initiatives, and activities, kicking off on New Year’s Eve. The City will also be launching a social media campaign that will take place throughout 2024 inviting residents to share their most memorable Brampton moments using #BramptonChapter50. These stories will be put together to create a memory book commemorating the milestone. For more information about Brampton’s 50th birthday celebration visit www.brampton.ca/chapter50.
“As we recognize 50 years of transformation, diversity and unity of Brampton as a City – we are reminded that the strength of our city is its people and their individual stories, which collectively have shaped our past to contribute to a brighter future. I encourage all residents, businesses and local organizations – past and present – to join us in honouring and celebrating the incredible milestones that make Brampton so special. Together, we continue to build a community that stands as a beacon of progress, resilience and inclusivity for all.” – Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton
