Watch – Trump still wants Canada as 51st state

It has been some time since President Trump has publicly contemplated the idea of annexing Canada and designating it as the 51st state. However, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated on Tuesday that this does not indicate a shift in Trump’s stance; rather, he simply has not been prompted on the topic.

“The president continues to hold his views regarding Canada. The United States has been providing financial support for Canada’s national defense, and he believes that Canadians would significantly benefit from becoming the 51st state of the United States,” Leavitt remarked during the daily White House press briefing in response to an inquiry from a Canadian news organization.

Trump’s discussions about the potential annexation of Canada have inadvertently strengthened the position of Canada’s ruling Liberal Party, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, who is currently leading in the polls ahead of the election scheduled for April 28.
