Anaya Bangar Opens Up About Harassment and Gender Journey: “Cricketers Sent Me Nude Photos”

Anaya Bangar, daughter of former Indian cricketer and coach Sanjay Bangar, has opened up about her difficult yet courageous journey of gender reaffirmation. Previously known as Aryan, Anaya had been part of age-level cricket teams in India and followed in her father’s footsteps. However, after undergoing hormone replacement therapy and gender reaffirmation surgery, she faced serious hurdles—both in sports and personally.

In a recent interview, Anaya described realizing her true identity at a young age. “When I was eight or nine, I used to wear my mom’s clothes and look in the mirror thinking, ‘I’m a girl’,” she shared. Living in the UK now, Anaya highlighted how the world of cricket was filled with “toxic masculinity” and insecurity, making it difficult for her to be open about her identity, especially since her father is a public figure.

She also revealed facing inappropriate behavior from fellow cricketers. “Some players sent me nude photos,” she claimed. She described one senior cricketer who verbally harassed her in public and later made inappropriate advances.

Anaya also expressed frustration over the ICC’s decision in November 2023 to bar transgender women from participating in women’s international cricket. She criticized the ruling, saying it excluded people like her despite their skills.

Despite the challenges, Anaya continues to stand strong, advocating for inclusivity and respect in sports and society.
