US Vice President JD Vance is arriving in New Delhi today for a three-day official and personal visit to India, accompanied by his wife Usha and their three children. His trip will include a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visits to key Indian cities to connect his children with their maternal heritage.
Though the main diplomatic engagement is a formal meeting and dinner with PM Modi, the rest of the visit will largely focus on cultural exploration, including sightseeing in Jaipur and Agra.
Upon arrival, Vance will receive a guard of honour at the airport, followed by a shopping trip to explore Indian handicrafts in Delhi.
Due to a slight delay in his flight, earlier planned meetings with other Indian leaders have been dropped from the schedule. However, key trade issues, including the India-US bilateral trade agreement and paused reciprocal tariffs, are expected to be discussed during his interactions with Indian officials.
On April 22, Vance will travel to Jaipur, where he will be welcomed by the Rajasthan governor and chief minister. He and his family will visit famous sites like Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, and City Palace. He is also scheduled to speak at the Rajasthan International Centre and meet local business and political figures.
On April 23, the Vance family will head to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal.
This is JD Vance’s first visit to India and part of a two-nation tour that started in Italy. His trip follows a March visit by National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard.
